Year-round, the sunshine city of downtown St. Petersburg has special events that bring the community together for days of fun. The Pinellas County Fair is held the end of March. This fun-filled fair takes place over a period of five days in downtown St. Petersburg. Special attractions include savory food booths, craft exhibits, fun games, over 50 rides and contests like the Ms. Pinellas Beauty Contest. Enjoy the typical yummy fair food like delicious funnel cakes and fried Snickers.
The Illuminated Night Parade has been a St. Pete tradition since 1969. Dance troupes, krewes, colorful floats and marching bands pound the downtown streets in late March. There are also Grand Prix drivers in their show cars that wind through the downtown streets to celebrate the official start of the Grand Prix Race Weekend. Hundreds participate in the Harvey’s 5K run on Beach Drive at North Straub Park.
The Festival of Speed in April draws crowds. It was founded as Florida’s premier automotive and luxury lifestyle showcase for enthusiasts with a passion for transportation. It’s a weekend of viewing the world’s finest vintage and modern automobiles, watercraft, motorcycles and aircraft. The event has grown to include luxury lifestyle products like fine art, upscale jewelry and select wines and spirits.
Blues enthusiasts come from all over the world to watch the Tampa Bay Blues Fest. This spectacular showcase of American blues music is performed right on the waterfront at Vinoy Park. Grab a beach blanket on the sands for a weekend of music. At the Sunscreen Film Festival in April, locals and visitors can enjoy the celebration in the creation and production of independent film in Florida. All genres are played on big screens, and there are parties along with workshops.
The city also has ongoing events. On the first Friday of every month along Central Avenue there is a block party. The streets are lined with great live music and vendors serving up culinary delights and drinks. On the second Saturday of each month, all of the art galleries from 30th Street to the downtown waterfront serve up refreshments along with art activities.
