It’s a Dog’s World – Brag Blog – Brodie’s Story

February 13, 2015 by Sharon Fennell Kennedy | St. Petersburg, FL: Pinellas County 7 Comments

brodie
The idea of a pet brag blog is catching on. As previously stated society gives us plenty of opportunities to brag about our children and grandchildren – but what about “parents” of pets?

I am happy to report pet parents are answering that question with submissions about their favorite four-legged companions. Here is the latest installment.

Meet Brodie, a handsome white German Shepherd rescue from the Heart of the Catskill Humane Society in Delhi, New York. (www.heartofthecatskills.org) Although he passed away on January 7, 2014, his spirit, the happiness he brought and the memories he created are the reasons I am sharing his story as told to me by his “mother”, my best friend Joan.

Found roaming in a remote, wooded area in 2007, Brodie’s wounds and thin body were undeniable evidence of abuse. His age was uncertain – anywhere between 18 months to 3 years. He needed immediate medical care, lots of TLC, and thereafter, a loving home.

Luckily for this pooch, two fantastic people – his future “mother” and “father” adopted him and in a New York minute Brodie was on his way to living the high life. His playful personality, steadfast companionship and loyalty, and multitude of antics continue to this day to put smiles on the faces of those of us who knew and loved him.

Full stomach, a comfy rug and a fireplace… I can only hope heaven is as nice! What a life. This prophetic caption was written on 11.18.2009 by Brodie’s “Dad” who would pass away months later on 3.15.2010.

Brodie was a wonderful dog. He was really a gentle giant but quite intimidating if you did not know how sweet he was. I miss him greeting me at the door when I would go to Joan’s house. He really did have the best Mom and Dad a dog could ever ask for.

Hi Karen: Good to know you are a “Brodie” fan, too. He was a funny fellow. My grandkids loved him – he loved chasing them around the yard.
      Best to you & Dave,
      Sharon.

I met Brodie once or twice after my brother in law had passed, and to say the dog was active was an understatement.Once I got to know him he calmed down but he was the ideal dog for Joan living alone in a large home

Jon: Brodie was a great dog. My family and I got to know him as soon as he was adopted by Adam and Joan. Flight risk, yes but he knew he was #1 at home!
      Best to you & Linda,
      Sharon.

Brodie was the Neighborhood WatchDog, with his distinguished loud deep bark, and his stand-alone intimidating presence. His human Mom& Dad could be found in our local Pet Specialty Store, replenishing, upgrading and adding to Brodie’s supply of toys, food, and comfy bedding. He was a lucky rescue and a gem of a companion dog we’ll always remember as one of the family. Nice feature story and blog spot for all the insatiable dog lovers out there.

The first time I met Brodie I thought “Uh oh, he’s not very approachable” as Adam held him and he growled at me. Because of the abuse when he was younger he was very leery of strangers. However, once Joan and Adam started taking care of him and gave him a good home Brodie changed. The change was amazing and if he knew you he would welcome you as a friend. We spent a lot of time “wrestling” with an old towel or a ball. He would hang on with all he had as I tried to pull them away from his clenched teeth. We had a blast! He was a gentle giant and he is missed.

Brodie was a wonderful dog very playful. He would always greet me with his deep bark but playful
Presence and wagging tail. That’s the greeting I always received when I went to Joan’s house. Such a gentle giant but always protective. He is missed dearly!
