Landscaping with Garden Statues

August 24, 2015 by Sharon Fennell Kennedy | St. Petersburg, FL: Pinellas County 6 Comments

garden_statueCurb appeal is a topic that I often write about because of its significant impact on your property’s market value. It can boost it as much as 28%, if done tastefully.

One way to take your landscaping up a notch is to incorporate garden statues in your design. Here are a couple of tips you may want to consider.

  • Create a beautiful focal point: When selecting the ideal space for your garden statue, consider factors such as what direction the statue will be facing when viewing it from windows inside your home or how it will contribute to your outdoor entertaining space.
  • Use a statue to highlight another landscape design feature: If your landscape features a spectacular pond, highlight this feature by strategically placing a statue in the vicinity of your pond. Other great spots to use a statue include along pathways, next to doorways, and nearby outdoor furniture.

Just like a home with too much furniture and clutter, you do not want to overcrowd your yard with too many decorations. Keep it simple. Let the garden statues speak for themselves and fit tastefully.

I liked your tip for using a garden statue to highlight other features in my landscaping. Placing statues next to water features, pathways, doorways, and close to outdoor furniture seem like great spots to put them. I’ll have to keep that in mind while looking for good places to put the statues after I pick them up. Thanks for the tips!

Indeed, this statue usually turns into a focal point for your backyard, make sure it looks good. I hadn’t thought to use it to highlight another focal point before though, that seems really smart. When trying to highlight a thing of water, such as a pond or something, are you just supposed to put it nearby or can you actually put it in the center of the water?

You mentioned that when selecting the ideal space for you garden statue, consider factors such as what direction the statue will be facing when viewing it from windows inside your home or how it will contribute to your outdoor entertaining space. My brother has been redocorating his garden and wants to add a beautiful statue somewhere. We’ll have to look for a store that provides unique pieces, that he could add that would nicely compliment his already beautiful garden.

Thanks for the interesting read about using garden statues for landscaping. I didn’t know that the statue could be used to highlight another feature of the landscape, like a pond or something. Maybe it could be good to have a layout idea of the area to know where the best spot for the statue should be.
