King of Street Names – The Mighty Oak! Thanks to a quirk of history, there are streets throughout the country named after trees. Did you know that it all started with William Penn, who planned the city of Philadelphia? He named all the “east-west” streets after trees and the “north-south” streets after numbers. Once Philadelphia became established in the 1680s, almost every town founded after that was laid out the same way – in a grid with tree street names. The most common name is Oak, followed by Pine and Maple. Orlando is the most saturated with tree streets, followed by Tampa-St. Petersburg! According to a Trulia analysis of 100 metro areas, the median listing price for homes on tree streets is a notch above the overall median listing.
New Year – All Year Mantra: Now that we are two weeks into the New Year, I think it’s important to remember that to keep resolutions – personal and/or professional – you need a plan. For me that plan involves taking a broad view of life and keeping a positive attitude by taking one day at a time. It isn’t always easy but try starting each morning by saying:
- I will live for today and not dwell on yesterday or worry about tomorrow.
- I will be happy.
- I will accept what is and correct the things that I can correct and accept those I can’t.
- I will do something positive to improve my health.
- I will take responsibility for my actions.
Localtopia: The Independent Business Alliance – Keep St. Petersburg Local – is celebrating its second anniversary with Localtopia, a community celebration of all things local. It’s sponsored by Mazzaro’s Italian Market, so you know it has to be good! All events will be held in Williams Park.
