Lifestyles by Estelia… Latest in Take-out – Your Dining Room
I came across an interesting article in the Wall Street Journal recently (5.23.2014) which talked about a trend some luxury homeowners subscribe to – no dining room.
In an era when most people eat their meals at the kitchen island, in front of the TV or on the patio, the dining room has become perhaps the least used room in the house. Enter Tad Dekko – entrepreneur and philanthropist – who lives right in our own backyard of Tierra Verde. Mr. Dekko and his interior designer created the “dining study”, an area he uses as a repository for his 2,500 books and secondarily for entertaining. With walnuts desks that can be joined together to create a long dining table and glass doors opening to the patio, the dining study becomes a relaxed reception area that bridges indoor and outdoor spaces.
Although a dining room may be infrequently used, not everyone is willing to give up having one. In this case designers suggest swapping a long formal table with smaller modular tables to create a more casual multiuse space. An interesting concept – Agree or Disagree?
