St. Petersburg has 2,400 acres of gorgeous parklands comprised of over 150 parks. From nature preserves and fitness trails to fishing lakes and athletic fields, the city offers limitless opportunity for some outdoor adventure. There are even skate parks and pet-friendly parks.
The Bartlett Park stretches over 22 acres and has playground areas, lighted soccer fields, outdoor basketball courts and lighted tennis courts. It is also home to the Frank W. Pierce Recreation Center where there are fun recreational programs. Anglers can fish at the Salt Creek Lake. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, the lake is stocked with Nile perch, catfish, bream and bass.
At the Clam Bayou Park, visitors can kayak the waterways and hike the nature trails. The Boyd Hill Nature Reserve is an award-winning park that features unique ecosystems like sand pine scrub, pine flatwoods, swamp woodland and hardwood hammocks. There are six miles of picturesque trails and scenic boardwalks. Locals and tourists alike can take guided tours along the Great Florida Birding Trail and to Lake Maggiore. Along the way, there are alligators drifting by while turtles sun themselves on tussocks. There are also picnic areas with shelter, playgrounds and overnight camping facilities.
St. Petersburg is also home to a variety of beach parks like Treasure Island Park and Spa Beach Park. Enjoy a day of sun, sand and surf in the sparkling waters. Both of these beach parks feature beachside picnic tables, food concessions and sand volleyball courts. In addition to panoramic vistas of the waterways, there are also wilderness trails for hiking and jogging.
Fossil Park and Lake Vista Park are popular hangouts for skateboarding enthusiasts. There are plenty of tunnels and jumps for an adrenaline rush. In addition to offering a skateboard area, these parks feature outdoor public pools, dog parks, fitness zones, recreation centers, lighted tennis courts and outdoor basketball courts.
When it comes to parks, St. Petersburg is an outdoor playground.
