The EDGE District is one of downtown St. Petersburg’s most walkable and vibrant neighborhoods. Bounded by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Street, 16th Street and First Avenues North and South, the EDGE is a happening place for shopping, food, drinks, nightlife, and art.
Evolution of the EDGE District
According to the EDGE District Business Association, the neighborhood is currently home to over 1,600 residents; an additional 80,000 visitors pass through each month to patronize the neighborhood’s over 130 businesses. But, things were not always so bright in the EDGE. A little over a decade ago, Central Avenue, the main corridor that runs through the EDGE District, had its share of empty, dilapidated storefronts, vacant lots, and languishing businesses.
In 2016, the City of St. Petersburg released its EDGE District Improvement Plan – An Economic and Market Assessment. With the City’s commitment to ongoing improvement initiatives and investments in the streetscape, the foundation for the EDGE revitalization was laid.
Dog Friendly
Take a walk on Central Avenue in EDGE District and you will be sure to run into lots of dogs. Nearly every downtown restaurant that offers outdoor dining is also dog-friendly, most even provide water bowls and treats. In fact, you would be hard-pressed to find a restaurant in the EDGE District that is not dog friendly. In fact, the City of St. Petersburg was voted one of the most dog-friendly cities in the country.
Murals
Mural-spotting is just one of the many amazing ways to experience the EDGE District. Here are two example of the many spectacular works you will find as you walk through the EDGE.
Artist: Morning Breath. About the mural: Back for SHINE 2019 having lost their first SHINE mural to construction, these talented Brooklyn artists are known for keeping it weird with their boundary-pushing illustrative style. Location: 250 Dr. MLK Jr. St. N.

EDGE District Housing Market
In April 2022, EDGE District home prices were up 14.1% compared to last year, selling for a median price of $662K. On average, homes sell after 4 days on the market compared to 5 days last year. RE/MAX Metro Realtor Estelia Mesimer is familiar with the many housing opportunities in and adjacent to the EDGE District. The area is a great place to live and work because of its ease of transportation – whether walking, by car, bike, bus, scooter, or skate board!
